A student success specialist is provided in many English and Math courses.  The specialist works with you to tap into your individual academic strengths, connects you to important success services, and works with you to build a community of campus support. The service is provided during Math and English courses, honoring that students are often juggling a busy life while working toward their academic goal.

Embedded Support Interventions Include:

  • Individualized Student Success Coaching Plan
  • Technology is used to "nudge” or message students on important deadlines or college requirements (important if you are a first generation college student).
  • In Class Embedded Support, student coaching is delivered in the classroom.
  • Assertive Wrap Around Service, includes ongoing performance feedback and case management to ensure you understand how to navigate and\access Butte College supports.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a program built around peer-led group study sessions and is designed to help students succeed.  Our SI Leaders are students who have taken the course and are trained to facilitate or guide your learning through fun, collaborative activities that provide more practice with course material and concepts.  SI helps you maximize your study time while also getting to know your peers and having fun.

What to Expect at an SI Session

When you come to an SI session, you'll encounter a welcoming and inclusive environment. Since SI sessions are collaborative, you'll work in small groups with other students in your class. SI is a low stakes environment (you won’t be graded!), so don’t be embarrassed to make a mistake or be confused. The SI Leader will use facilitation strategies to encourage you to think more critically about course content and develop a deeper understanding of how different concepts connect to one another.

SI Session Location: Located in CAS on the main floor of the Learning Resource Center, Room LRC 224

Statistics-Focused SI Sessions Location: TE 116
